Nikolas - CP3
Last Tuesday, I met with my new conversation partner, Emin. My old partner Majed quit the conversation partner programme, because it was not what he wanted and he had too little time for it, so I received new partner. Emin comes from Erzurum, a city in eastern Turkey. He explained that the city is cold in winter with snow and how the Russians and Turks had fought over this city for centuries. I associate the warm coast with Turkey normally (cities like Istanbul, Izmir, etc.), so this was interesting. He has been with CIES for 7 months and his English is good. He says he reads very well and knows when he makes the errors, but it is hard for him to say them correct, so he wants to practice the speaking. He studies for master in physics and plans to return to Turkey after CIES ends in May, and then apply to universities in USA. He asked questions about me and my backround also, and told me he had studied German in university, but his professor was bad, so he did not learn much (sometimes the professor not even come to class!). It was very interesting to talk with him. We agreed to meet again the next week at same time.

I would recommend coming to class as good methodology, but then again, with distance education, who knows!
