As we spoke in between analyzing grammar a few words came up that they did not know. I had them write these words down as vocabulary, and gave them the meanings. I hope to keep adding to this list, and maybe incorporate these words into an exercise later.

Tyler-TP2
My second meeting with my tutoring group was slightly more difficult than the first. I began (after a short discussion) by asking my group what they might need help on. They all had quizzes on grammar the following day, and had a few questions. One specific worksheet was on gerunds, and their function within a sentence. I had to read the paper to refresh myself on gerunds, and then I attempted to explain them the best I could. Never having been a stickler for grammar, I found it hard to explain. Not that I didn't understand it mind you, I didn't know how to explain it in terms that made sense to them. After a bit of fumbling, I believe I got the point across as I went over some of the problems and examples on the worksheet.

Good job Tyler, that could be stressful. I think that could have been even more difficult if there was not a worksheet to look over and I have been in a similar position before.I now keep and really simple book as a resource for those occasions.
ReplyDeleteGood idea, Katie, and thanks for sharing this Tyler. Is sounds like you both you and the tutees are getting the practice you need!
