Katie- CP 3
I met with my conversation partner for two hours on Friday. I wanted to go through about 2-3 passages and discuss the question and answers but I was amazed that we only had time for one passage and about 10 questioned that followed the passage. My approach was to really guide him to get the correct answers and diagnose his methods , not focusing on time at all. I did track how long it took him to read the passage just for comparison later. We then went question by question and I would ask him first, "How would you answer this question, would you read the answer choices first or would you go straight to the passage?" These types of questions helped me to diagnose his routine and way of answering comprehension questions.I began to understand that he was simply looking for key words and when he was reading the passage he wasn't making the connections he needed too, as well as learning from the previous questions to answer the next ones. I gave him pointers and helped him to understand that key words can be helpful, but can also lead him to picking that "tricky" answer that is detectable if comprehension is fully there. I also somehow managed to get into the discuss of what a damsel in distress is and the mythological story of Hercules (or at least what I knew as far as the Disney movie) . Next session he is going to teach me about the superheros or tales from his country.

This is great, Katie, but is this a CP or TP session?
